| THE
BIRTH OF IDEAS (2002) |
  |
‘The Birth of Ideas’ illustrates a world of complex monstrosity. Teeming with gratuitous aberrations, two separate masses of proto and sub-organic matter float unanchored, illuminated by a sickly sun. Insanely detailed, the viewer’s eye is drawn into the image, discovering amongst the dense skein fantastical embryonic forms, swirls of tiny insects, entrail-like structures and a number of typical Chapman ‘figures’. Perhaps their most finely worked etching to date, ‘The Birth of Ideas’ takes the medium of hard ground etching to an extreme level.
